(Chicago, IL) -- Illinois is the first state in the country to require that Asian American history be taught in public schools.
Governor JB Pritzker signed the bill that goes into effect in the fall of the 2022 school year.
The curriculum will cover the traditions and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
The teachings will be required in all public elementary and high schools.
