Pfizer Asks FDA for Approval of Shot for Children Ages 5-11

(New York, NY) -- Pfizer has asked federal regulators Thursday to allow younger kids to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

This is what many parents of elementary school aged kids have been waiting for. Pfizer formally requested emergency use authorization for its vaccine in 5 to 11 year olds.

The FDA's science advisors will discuss it later this month and assuming they decide it's safe and effective for younger kids the shots could begin within weeks, possibly as soon as Halloween.

Kids have been at lower risk of severe COVID-19 but they can sometimes get quick sick. Pfizer studied the vaccine in 22-hundred kids and found no serious side effects.
