(San Diego, CA) -- A new study shows birth rates increased in predominately Republican areas following the 2016 election of President Donald Trump.

UC San Diego released the study Wednesday, finding that in the first two years of Trump's presidency, the national birth rate jumped as high as two percent.

Looking at data from the National Center for Health Statistics, paired with Census Bureau data, authors of the study say there was a significant partisan shift.

The study is being called the first to establish a link between a presidential election and the birth rates of politically aligned groups.
