(Cupertino, CA) -- Apple is raising its starting pay in the U.S. to 22 dollars an hour.

The iPhone company said Wednesday that the new pay will take effect in early July. In a statement to Reuters, Apple said the pay raise is a 45-percent jump from 2018 levels.

Google and Microsoft have also adjusted employee pay this year as tech companies struggle to retain workers.
