(Bali) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is urging the Group of 20 major economies to address a food security crisis that's being caused in part by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Yellen spoke Friday at a G20 meeting of financial officers in Indonesia, and called on major economies to help those most in need and to boost their spending on food security issues linked to the Russian conflict, climate change and other challenges.

She said Russia was "using food as a weapon of war" by "the effective blockade of Black Sea ports" and other means, and that poor households in the poorest of countries were the most directly affected.
