(Brussels) -- The U.S. and its NATO allies are running short on the weapons and ammunition they've been providing Ukraine for its war against Russian forces.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the alliance's arms directors met on Tuesday to focus on ways to refill member nations' weapons stockpiles.

Military analysts say the shortages are a consequence of Western nations producing arms in much smaller numbers during peacetime.

The U.S. has already given several billion dollars worth of weapons and aide to Ukraine as the war between the country and Russia forges ahead.
