(Peach Springs, AZ) -- An Arizona family of five is safe after being trapped about 200 feet underground for more than a day at Grand Canyon Caverns.

What was supposed to be a 20-minute visit at the bottom of the caverns two hours southeast of Grand Canyon National Park turned into a 30-hour stay when the elevator broke.

A father and his adult son climbed out using an emergency stairway, then brought food and supplies down as the family spent the night in an underground hotel suite.

Rescue teams team brought the others up using a harness and lifting them out through the elevator shaft. No one was injured.
