(Washington, DC) -- Federal health officials are renewing the national public health emergency for monkeypox.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said "continued consequences" still exist despite dropping cases.

The Hill reports the decision was made in part to keep gathering data from states and to allow vaccine efficacy studies to happen.
