(Denver, CO) -- Two Denver firefighters will serve suspensions after having a doctor pronounce a woman dead, even though she was still alive.

The Denver Department of Public Safety says the two firefighters were called to perform a welfare check on a woman who had just had stomach surgery in June.

A police officer described the woman's condition to the firefighters, but they did not personally examine her and proceeded to have her declared dead.

The police officer went back into the home and found the woman moving and she was eventually taken to the hospital.
