Bipartisan group of senators move forward with Respect for Marriage Act

(Washington, DC)  --  A bipartisan group of senators is agreeing to move forward with the Respect for Marriage Act.  The legislation would guarantee that same-sex or interracial marriages are recognized by the government if valid in the couple's state. The senators' amendment adds that non-profit religious organizations can still deny services for marriages, but also recognizes that all couples "deserve the dignity, stability, and ongoing protection of marriage."
