(Washington, DC) -- The FDA is changing its blood donation policies to be more gender-inclusive.

It introduced guidance to phase out time-based deferrals for men who have sex with other men, instead opting to ask individual questions to assess the risk of potentially spreading HIV.

Right now, those men can donate blood after a three-month abstention from sex with men.
