New York Representative Jamaal Brown criminally charged for Capitol fire alarm incident

(Washington, DC)  --  New York Democrat Jamaal Bowman is being criminally charged in connection with pulling a fire alarm in a congressional building on Capitol Hill.

He was charged with one misdemeanor count of falsely pulling a fire alarm and has been ordered to appear in D.C. Superior Court Thursday.

The charge comes after Bowman set off the alarm in the Cannon office building late last month as lawmakers considered a spending measure to keep the government open.

Bowman claimed he had pulled the alarm while trying to open a locked door in a rush to get to a vote.
