(Washington, DC)  --  A group of Democratic senators are calling for a freeze on U.S. military aid to Israel.

Nine Democrats and one Republican on Tuesday voted to support a resolution by Independent Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont that would have given the State Department 30 days to report human rights violations committed during Israel's war against Hamas, and to freeze military aid if it failed to meet the deadline. The Senate voted overwhelmingly to table the resolution.

A New York Times poll last month showed a growing number of Democratic voters disapprove of President Biden's handling of the conflict in the Middle East.
