Three foreign aid spending bills in Republican House clear legislative hurdle with Democrat votes

(Washington, DC)  --  House Speaker Mike Johnson's foreign aid package is clearing a major hurdle with the help of Democrats.  

The House approved a rule vote today to begin debate on individual bills to provide military aid for Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. In an unusual move, Democrats voted with Republicans to advance the legislation as many conservatives voted no. The move has inflamed conservatives who want significant border policy changes in exchange for more funding for Ukraine and are now threatening Johnson's job over the issue.

Three bills in the package would provide military assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, and a fourth includes sanctions on Iran, the seizure of frozen Russian sovereign assets, and a measure that could lead to a nationwide ban on TikTok.  

The House is expected to vote for final passage over the weekend.
