House Budget Committee shoots down Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has been dealt a setback with a GOP-led vote to scuttle his so-called “big beautiful bill.”

The vote in the House Budget Committee was 16-21 with five Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the multitrillion dollar package. Most of the GOP concerns centered around increasing the deficit.

The Republicans who voted against the bill include:

  • Rep. Chip Roy of Texas
  • Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina
  • Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia
  • Rep. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma
  • Rep. Lloyd Smucker of Pennsylvania

The same committee says it will meet Sunday at 10:00 pm eastern and try again.

Before the Friday vote, Trump warned “we don’t need ‘grandstanders’ in the Republican Party.”

Republican North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak voted in favor of the bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee earlier this week which passed the legislation.

“This landmark package will help restore Medicaid to its original mission—supporting seniors, people with disabilities, and pregnant women—while cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse. It reins in crushing regulations, ends Biden’s costly EV mandates, and puts a stop to Green New Deal-style slush funds. Importantly, our legislation gives America’s energy producers the tools they need to compete, grow, and make our nation energy dominant once again. This is a win for taxpayers, working families, and the people who power our economy,” Fedorchak said.
