WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump’s DOGE-related spending cuts are approved by a 214-212 vote in the House.
Six members of Congress, including Republican Minnesota Congressman Brad Finstad, did not vote on the legislation.
The White House used a rarely-used procedure that recommends Congress take back spending it has already approved. The over $9 billion in reductions targets mostly foreign aid, but also funding to the Corporation of Public Broadcasting which gives money to NPR and PBS.
“Americans lose trust in government when their hard-earned tax dollars are spent advancing radical ideologies instead of addressing everyday needs,” Republican North Dakota Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said. “Public funds should support core national interests—not subsidize biased messaging or unaccountable programs. Between the One Big Beautiful Bill and these rescissions, we are taking meaningful steps to correct our fiscal course. I applaud President Trump for delivering on his mandate to root out the waste, fraud, and abuse rampant in our bloated bureaucracy.”
The bill now heads to the Senate where its fate remains unclear, but it cannot be filibustered.
