Proposal To Promote Native American Studies Dies In ND House

(Bismarck, ND) -- A bill that would have required an emphasis on Native American studies in all public and non-public schools in North Dakota has died in the state House.  The House yesterday voted 47-to-47 on the bill, which means the bill is dead because of the tie vote.  Some lawmakers argued schools already teach some form of Native American studies.  Supporters argued the bill would have provided more structure to those studies, which they say have not been sufficient to provide a more complete understanding of Native Americans.
