(Bismarck, ND) -- A proposal to allow long-term care residents to name a caregiver is now a North Dakota law. Governor Doug Burgum signed legislation yesterday giving nursing home and long-term care facility residents the opportunity to name an essential caregiver who can come and go during states of emergency to provide them support. State and federal-level restrictions aimed at stopping the spread of the virus within facilities made it difficult for the elderly to see their loved ones. The new law also calls on the Department of Human Services to review and update its essential caregiver protocols every thirty days during times of restricted visitation.
