UPDATE: Power fully restored in Traill County early Saturday; Xcel Energy provides update

UPDATE 10:45 a.m. Saturday: (Traill County, ND) — The power returned back on in Traill County early Saturday morning. The outage, which was first reported Friday at 7:38 p.m., returned at approximately 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. WZFG/WDAY Radio has learned, from Xcel Energy, that high winds in the region caused the outage — and that the delay in the response was due to the fact that crews were tending to the outage in Grand Forks County.

UPDATE 11:56 p.m.: (Traill County, ND) — The power outages continue in Traill County in eastern North Dakota. Xcel Energy says, on its website, that now only five outages have been reported in Traill County, with all five in the Mayville-Portland area. More than 1,600 customers are affected by the latest outage. According to Xcel Energy, the latest outages were reported at 11:21 p.m., with one of the outages - located northwest of Island Park, on Mayville's west side - showing an estimated restoration time of 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. No word yet on the causes of the outages.

UPDATE 11:34 p.m.: (Traill County, ND) — After nearly 30 minutes with power on in the City of Mayville, the power is back off, according to sources within the city. Xcel Energy is reporting currently 40 outages reported in Traill County, affecting nearly 600 residents as of 11:30 p.m. Friday night. Xcel Energy says it is "assessing damage," according to its outage map. In Grand Forks County, Xcel Energy has restored a majority of the power to the city, with only a few outages being reported as of 11:30 p.m.

UPDATE 10:16 p.m.: (Traill and Grand Forks County, ND) — Xcel Energy now says crews are on scene in Grand Forks County assessing damage from a storm that rolled through the Grand Forks metro earlier Friday evening. In Traill County, sources tell WZFG/WDAY Radio that crews have just arrived in Mayville. Xcel still lists an estimated restoration time of 11 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: (Traill County, ND) — Nearly 1,600  Xcel Energy customers in Traill County and another 200 in Grand Forks County are without power tonight. According to Xcel Energy spokesman Matt Lindstrom, the power outage affecting the customers in Traill County was reported at 7:38 p.m., with the Grand Forks County outages reported nearly two minutes later. The Traill County outages followed an earlier outage, at around 4 p.m., which was repaired. “We are trying to figure out what’s going on,” Lindstrom told WZFG/WDAY Radio Friday evening. He says crews were en route, as of 9 p.m., to assess the outage. There is no official word on an exact time of restoration, Lindstrom says, but the Xcel Energy website lists 11 p.m. as an estimated restoration time.
