(Fargo, ND) -- The first case of the Delta COVID variant is confirmed in North Dakota.
The state's Department of Health says this strain was first found in India and is more easily transmitted from person to person.
Officials say it can cause serious illness, especially in people who aren't vaccinated.
The good news is, however, that active COVID cases are below 200 in North Dakota.
It's the first time they've been this low since last April.
Currently there are 184-confirmed cases statewide. That's down 24 from earlier this week. One new death has been reported.
