North Dakota Ethics Commission Approves Food, Drink Exception

(Bismarck, ND) -- North Dakota's Ethics Commission is changing its gift rules for public officials.

The commission approved a ten-dollar food and drink exception Wednesday. The food and drink must be bought and consumed while in the presence of a state resident at "an informal social or educational event."

State-elected officials and lawmakers are subject to the exception.

The intention is to allow state residents to buy a modest meal for a public official while sharing their concerns on an issue.
