(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota is experiencing a spike in boating-related deaths.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced Sunday that 17 people have died in boating-related incidents this year, making it the highest since 2005. With weeks of open water likely left this year, the department predicts that number could increase.
To ensure safety, DNR recommends boaters wear life jackets, make sure to distribute their weight evenly on the boat and tell others where they are.
