(New Town, ND) -- The driver of a pickup truck suffered serious injuries after colliding with the back of a semi Friday evening.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the semi, which was being driven by 55-year-old Darciann Mock, was headed eastbound on Highway 23. That's when Mock slowed down to turn northbound on Highway 8, and was slammed into by the pickup truck behind her.

The driver of the pickup, 43-year-old Ira Walter, suffered significant but non-life-threatening injuries from the wreck. He was taken ambulance to New Town airport, then life flighted to Trinity hospital in Minot.

Mock suffered minor injuries, and was also taken to Trinity for treatment. Highway 23 was shut down for nearly an hour for clean up.

The Highway Patrol says they believe Walter suffered a medical incident behind the wheel, causing him to crash into Mock's semi.
