(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Department of Health is confirming the first four cases of COVID-19's Omicron variant in the state.
All four cases were identified yesterday, with two found in Ward County, and one in both Burleigh and Cass Counties. All four cases were people under the age of 50. Only one person of the four is unvaccinated, and none have needed to be hospitalized at this time. Only two of the cases were related to out of state travel, and they were both connected to each other.
The Omicron variant is the newest variant to visit North Dakota. Over the course of the whole pandemic, more than 169-thousand North Dakotans have tested positive for COVID-19 and its variants, with 19-hundred passing away.
Over the course of the pandemic nationwide, more than 50,000,00 cases have been reported. The number of people who have died from complications caused by COVID-19 is just over 800,000.
