(Duluth, MN) -- A Minnesota Appeals Court is upholding the public's right to review the state's current mine-siting rules.
The case was brought by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness, who challenged the current regulations, which put the site Twin Metals hopes to mine outside the established Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness buffer zone.
The national chair of the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters issued a statement hailing Monday's ruling, saying it opens the door for "much-needed examination" into whether mining companies should be allowed so close to the Boundary Waters.
