(Bismarck, ND) -- Former U.S. Attorney and Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota Drew Wrigley is set to run for the soon-to-be vacant Attorney General's seat here in the Peace Garden State.

Wrigley made his announcement on the run Thursday, saying it was reliant on current Attorney General Wayne Stenjhem retiring at the end of his term.

The 56-year-old Bismarck native graduated from the University of North Dakota, then served as U.S. Attorney twice under Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump, and in between served six years as the state's Lieutenant Governor.

Wrigley has said his plan would be only to serve the people of North Dakota as the Attorney General, and he has no plans to run for Governor, even if current Governor Doug Burgum decides to not run for a third term in 2024.
