(St. Paul, MN) --  A new report shows that the number of deadly crashes in Minnesota hit near record levels last year.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says 2021 was the deadliest year on the roads since 2007. DPS says nearly 500 people died in crashes on Minnesota roads last year. Officials say speed and not wearing seatbelts contributed to most of the state's deadly crashes.

Alcohol-related crashes contributed to 135 deaths.
