(Bismarck, ND) -- North Dakota's Republican Party is planning to charge a fee for endorsements of statewide candidates.

Candidates will now have to submit signatures from ten local party chairs and 25-hundred dollars if running for a statewide office. Congressional candidates will have to pay 35-hundred and candidates for the Senate or Governor will have to pay five-thousand dollars for the chance at an endorsement.

The party's chairman says the fees help with costs and ensure that candidates can raise money and support. Some Republicans say the fees will be prohibitive to newcomers and protect incumbents.
