(St. Paul, MN) -- Governor Tim Walz is proposing a supplementary budget that would waive college application fees for Minnesota students.

Other aspects of the proposal include expanding some state grant programs, funding new scholarships at the University of Minnesota and freezing tuition at colleges and universities in the Minnesota State system.

The governor is focusing on growing concerns about the cost of college and the burden of student loan debt. Democrats are indicating support for some aspects of the proposal.
