(Hawley, MN) -- Hawley Mayor Jim Joy is announcing his run for an open Minnesota House seat.

Joy is running for the House seat left open by retiring DFL Rep. Paul Marquart in House District 4B. He says there need to be more small town influences in the twin cities.

"Small towns need big voices down at the Capitol — as a mayor, reserve police officer, and running businesses in small town Minnesota, I know I've got the experience to bring our rural values to Saint Paul and fight for our communities," Joy said. "Cost of living is way too high, and Minnesotans want to see the massive $7.7 billion surplus returned to them. We need tax relief including ending the social security tax in Minnesota permanently."

Part of his platform comes in the form of supporting first responders. He says public safety is a high priority in Minnesotan's minds, and will "make sure" police and firefighters have what they need to do their business.

Joy holds many hats within the city. He is not only the six-year mayor of Hawley, but also is a Reserve Police Officer and owner of a gas and convenience store in Hawley. He also served on Hawley's City Council for two years.
