First case of bird flu in seven years discovered in North Dakota

(Bismarck, ND) -- After Minnesota dealt with an outbreak of bird flu in recent weeks, it appears for the first time in nearly a decade it has found its way into North Dakota.

The State Game and Fish Department has confirmed to WDAY Radio News First that officials have discovered a single case of avian influenza in Kidder County.

Officials say the case was found in a backyard chicken flock, which was depopulated. The owners there have said the premises quarantined with hopes to prevent the spread.

The last documented cause of bird flu in the state came in 2015.
