(Fort Totten, ND) -- The FBI are investigating the death of a six-year-old boy that occurred on the Spirit Lake Reservation on Sunday.
The six-year-old was found with animal bites near his home in Fort Totten and was taken to a hospital in Devils Lake. The boy died shortly after his arrival.
The death prompted an emergency meeting of tribal elders, who say stray dogs have been an issue on the reservation for a long time. The elders say at least 700 dogs are known to be wandering the reservation, but admit the number is likely much higher than the confirmed number.
A service will be held on Friday and Saturday at Four Winds gym.
