(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Agriculture Department is clarifying its policy on bird sales.
Officials say private, catalog, and retail bird sales are allowed as long as birds meet requirements for livestock sales and animal health. The Board of Animal Health canceled all shows, public sales, swaps, and exhibitions of poultry and other birds in the state earlier this month as a way to prevent the spread of avian flu. The request for the cancelation came from the North Dakota Turkey Federation.
North Dakota is among nearly two dozen states with confirmed bird flu cases in a domestic poultry flock, after a case was documented this week in a Kidder County backyard chicken flock.
