Clay County Sheriff's Office: Body found in rural Hawley slough, investigations are ongoing

(Clay County, MN) -- The Hawley Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff's Office are reporting a body found in a rural slough.

Hawley PD say they received a report of "something suspicious" floating in a slough located in the 1800 block of 225th Street North in rural Hawley. Clay County Deputies say the object was a deceased person floating in the slough. 

Initial investigations found vehicle tracks entering the ditch, with small trees and branches knocked over. Vehicle parts were also found in the area. Valley Water Rescue were able to confirm a vehicle entered the water and came to rest in the slough.

An investigation is still ongoing. At this time, officials say they do not know what time the crash occurred or if weather was a factor.  The name of the victim will be released once next of kin are notified.
