Minnesota lawmakers divided on gun reform following Texas school shooting

(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers remain divided on the issue of gun reform following the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Republican lawmakers and candidates spoke about the issue Thursday, pointing out that Minnesota has some of the strictest gun regulations in the country. Democratic leaders say measures such as universal background checks and red flag warnings are common sense safety efforts.

Latino lawmakers, educators, and parents came to the Capitol Thursday, urging state leaders to take action to prevent future school shootings.

The Legislature debated new gun regulations in 2018 and 2019, but were unable to come to a consensus.
