(Sioux Falls, SD) -- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is facing criticism after speaking at the 2022 NRA Annual Meeting.

Noem spoke over the weekend in Houston, Texas, just three days after a school shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

Noem focused on her background growing up in a gun-owning household and called the Second Amendment sacred. She discussed her view that media outlets use school shootings to paint law-abiding gun owners as monsters.

She also said the American Revolution wouldn't have been won without private gun ownership, and criticized the French Revolution by comparing efforts there with what she called similar current efforts to remove statutes of confederate officers and slave owners.
