(Pierre, ND) -- Governor Kristi Noem says she will ban the prescribing of abortion pills online to South Dakotans.
Noem said on CBS's Face the Nation over the weekend that she supported a bill in South Dakota to ban telemedicine appointments to prescribe the drugs, stating that the unsupervised practice is "dangerous."
South Dakota has a so-called trigger law that went into effect immediately after Roe v. Wade was overturned late last week. The law bans abortions except to save a mother's life and makes performing the procedure a felony.
In the meantime, the South Dakota Governor's office is launching a new website with resources for pregnant women and new parents.
The site went live the same day the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed federal protection for abortion rights. The website also includes information on financial assistance and adoption.
Noem says caring for the unborn includes "getting moms the help they need to be successful."
