(St. Paul, MN) -- Governor Walz is allocating federal money toward public safety initiatives and gun violence prevention.

Walz announced the plan Tuesday, which will use the state's remaining 500 million dollars of American Rescue Plan funding. The plan includes funding for the Minnesota State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources Officers, and the Department of Corrections. The governor and lieutenant governor are also developing a statewide campaign to prevent gun-related injuries and theft.

The money will also be used to support resources for child care and mental health, food support, education, and emergency shelters.
