(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Supreme Court is siding with land owners in a dispute over who has the rights to underground rock cavities.
The unanimous ruling was released Thursday, and upheld key parts of a lower court's decision to strike down a state law that kept some landowners from receiving compensation for the use of underground cavities on their property.
The cavities are know as pore space, and can be used by oil producers to dispose of salt water or to inject carbon dioxide.
Land owners had argued that the 2019 law stripped away their property rights.
