(Bismarck, ND) -- A new panel is tasked with proposing reductions in government regulations to the 2023 Legislature.

Governor Doug Burgum formed the Red Tape Reduction Working Group Thursday through an executive order.

The group is made up of representatives from Cabinet and non-Cabinet agencies asked to review regulations and policies that Burgum says "have become antiquated, overly burdensome, and inefficient."

“Prioritizing innovation over regulation has been a hallmark of our administration, and today’s action will build upon those efforts by scrutinizing regulations and policies on an agency-by-agency basis to identify unnecessary, duplicative and burdensome red tape,” said Burgum in a statment released to WDAY Radio. “Reducing the number of regulations and streamlining those that remain will lower costs, promote freedom and make it easier for North Dakota citizens, innovators and entrepreneurs to reach their fullest potential.”

Over 150 state boards have also been invited to participate and ideas from North Dakotans are being taken at the governor's website.
