(Fargo, ND) -- An employment expert in Fargo says a large section of the population is entering the workforce at a slower pace than before.

David Dietz is the President and CEO of Preference Employment Solutions in Fargo. He joined Bonnie & Friends to speak about the young male demographic, which he says is representing a smaller portion of the labor force.

"In America, the last 10 or 20 years or so, and increasing the last couple of years since the pandemic, experts nationwide see a trend, "said Dietz, "This trend of middle aged males that are not in the workforce, and it's really interesting as to why."

Deitz says many surveys and studies are citing college debt, the opioid epidemic, and many other factors are leading to upwards of "700,000 to 800,000" men to be absent from the workforce overall.

"There are several factors, its not one thing, "said Deitz, "There is probably 8 to 10 different things going on."
