(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is outlining a state program to give bonuses for veterans and active-duty military since 9/11.

Walz discussed the program Sunday at the Minnesota State Capitol during a memorial for the attacks in 2001. The program passed in the last legislative session.

Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan spoke also about the patriotism shown in the aftermath of the attacks, saying the bonuses "are the least we can do."

Head of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Commissioner Larry Herke says over 40-thousand Minnesota military veterans who have served in the past 20-years are eligible to receive a bonus between six-hundred and two thousand dollars.

Herke says those eligible must have begun their military service in the state of Minnesota and also show they are current Minnesota residents.
