Who is number one? North Dakota's best colleges have been ranked

(Fargo, ND) -- With the first “early decision” college-application deadline looming on November 1st, and tuition and room and board at a four-year college costing around $23,000 - $52,000 per year, WalletHub has released its 2023 Best College & University Rankings report, including for the state of North Dakota.

So, who ranks number one? The personal finance website took into account 30 key measures grouped into seven categories, such as Student Selectivity, Cost & Financing and Career Outcomes. The data set ranges from student-faculty ratio to graduation rate to post-attendance median salary.

The rankings here in the Peace Garden State are as follows:

  1. University of Mary
  2. Mayville State University
  3. Valley City State University
  4. North Dakota State University
  5. University of North Dakota
  6. University of Jamestown
  7. Minot State University
  8. Dickinson State University

The top spot going to the University of Mary, which ranked inside the top three in the state in subcategories such as admission rate, on-campus crime, graduation rate and post-attendance median salary.

Mayville State finished first in admission rate, while Valley City State finished first in net cost to attend the college.
