(Norton County, MN) -- A GoFundMe for a recently deceased county official is looking to fund research into pancreatic cancer treatments.

Norton County Sheriff Jeremy Thornton passed away with family by his side Thursday morning from stage four metastatic pancreatic cancer. Thornton was received his official diagnosis on December 8th and went through one round of chemotherapy before he went to hospice care on January 4th. GoFundMe fundraiser Kate Payne says the funds will be used to pay off medical bills and be dedicated towards pancreatic cancer research.

"His plan was to retire there after spending time with his family including his four young grandsons. Unfortunately, time ran short," Fundraiser organizer Kate Payne said. "On January 4th he was escorted home to his farm on Hospice by several local law enforcement agencies where he could be in peace with his family".
