More details released following Mckenzie County oil tank explosions

(McKenzie County, ND) -- The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources is providing additional details following multiple oil tank explosions late last week. 

The department says the explosion happened at a saltwater disposal site near mile marker 167 on highway 85 in McKenzie County. Experts estimate 300 barrels (13,860 gallons) of produced water, a by-product of oil production that contains hazardous pollutants, spilled in a paved area. Documents released to WDAY Radio by the Williston Fire Department say they responded to reports of several oil tank explosions an a serious burn injury.
