Minnesota Department of Education pushing for additional rules to avoid Meal Program Fraud

(St. Paul, MN) — Minnesota Department of Education officials are pushing for additional rules to avoid meal program fraud.

Proposed legislation would require new training and exclude newly created meal-sponsoring organizations from the program.

The measure is part of the House education finance omnibus bill and Senate education policy bill.

Lawmakers are also considering boosting oversight of state nonprofit grants. This comes on the heels of several scams, including Feeding our Future, which resulted in millions being stolen.
