(St. Paul, MN) -- The Minnesota House approved legislation to spend $240 million dollars to clean up lead pipes across the state.
The measure now goes to Governor Walz, who is expected to sign the legislation. When he first proposed the bill earlier this year, the Governor said it was meant to prevent an emergency situation similar to what residents faced in Flint, Michigan between 2014 and 2019, where parts of the local water supply was contaminated with lead.
The Minnesota Health Department estimates there are almost 100,000 water service lines that are leaking lead into local drinking water.
