Grand Forks mom accused of leaving child on side of I-94 declared mentally fit to stand trial

(Grand Forks, ND) -- A Grand Forks mother accused of abandoning her 4-year-old child along I-29 has been found competent for trial.

Police say 37-year-old Ashley Johnson abandoned her daughter along the interstate in October. Following a review by doctors at the North Dakota State Hospital, the case against her can now move forward. 

Johnson is charged with child abandonment, neglect, and reckless endangerment.
