Hennepin County and Minneapolis leaders back Minnesota "sanctuary state" proposal

(St. Paul, MN)  --  Officials from Hennepin County and Minneapolis are casting support behind efforts by DFL lawmakers to make Minnesota a "sanctuary state".

State legislators are scheduled to return to the Capitol in St. Paul on February 12 and the North Star Act will be on the agenda.

The legislation bars state and local law enforcement from asking about a person's immigration status or aiding in civil immigration enforcement.

The sponsor of the proposed bill is State Senator Omar Fateh of Minneapolis.
