(Fargo, ND) -- An attorney representing white Minnesota farmer Lance Nistler is talking about why Nistler is suing the state, after Nistler was turned down for a farm loan.
"The program prioritized what's called an 'emerging farmer' which is defined as a farmer who is among other things a racial minority or a female farmer. So because Mr. Nistler is a white male, he got wait listed," said Andrew Quinio with the Pacific Legal Foundation.
The attorney says Nistler applied for a $15,000 state grant to go toward purchasing his first farm.
Quinio says he and his client hope to have their case resolved by the end of the summer.
